So many African Traditional Religions (ATRs) — like Vodou, Hoodoo, Lucumí, Santería, Candomblé, 21 Divisions, Ifá, Ìṣẹ̀ṣẹ, Shango Baptist, Spiritual Baptist, Roots, and yes, even Obeah — are too often judged, ridiculed, and dismissed as "less than" when compared to widely practiced Abrahamic religions.
Many of us from the Caribbean grew up hearing that Obeah was only about witchcraft and causing harm. But across all these sacred traditions, a common thread remains: reverence for the ancestors. Through divination and other sacred channels, practitioners and seekers connect with the ancestral plane — asking for guidance, protection, good health, prosperity, and whatever else Spirit knows we need.
